the 2nd amendment and racism kill another black teen.
“Yeah, I shot him,” is what John Henry Spooner told police at the scene.
Darius Simmons, 13, died of a gun shot in the chest in front of his house in Milwaukee, Wis. on May 31. Spooner, his 75-year-old neighbor of a month, killed Darius with a 9mm handgun. He accused Darius of stealing handguns from his home. Darius was at school during the time of the break-in.
Patricia Larry, Darius’s mother, witnessed the shooting. She was held for questioning in the back of a squad car for about two hours while her son was sent to the hospital. He was pronounced dead before she was able to see him.
Spooner spoke to his friend Milwaukee Alderman Bob Donovan about his stolen handguns and his frustration during breakfast an hour before the shooting. Donovan says Spooner suspected the people living next to him.
Spooner was diagnosed with lung cancer and lost his wife a few year back. He has been charged with first-degree intentional homicide. On Monday, June 11, he pleaded not guilty and waived his right to a preliminary hearing.
